Event Focus – Speed dating for people in their 30s

Tuesday August 19, 2014

Main Image

Our regular weekly speed dating for people in their thirties has proved to be a very popular night and is now a stalwart of our calendar. Attracting a vibrant, typically professional crowd from across London we consistently find a match rate of between 70-80% amongst those that attend. That means that well over two thirds of everyone attending matches with at least one person as either a yes of a friend.

It’s a success rate we’re very proud of and great news for people looking to meet people in their 30s in London.

This event normally attracts around thirty people, equally split between male and female attendees, of course. The event starts with a brief introduction from our hosts and we get the event going right away. Dates will last somewhere in the region of five minutes each. Our standard time is actually four minutes but believe it or not feedback has shown that the extra minute really makes the difference in this event category. Don’t ask why.

The event takes place on Wednesday evenings at Match Bar which is in Oxford Circus, moments from the tube station. Because of its central London location this event is easily accessible to most people living and working across the city. We use the private room at Match and it’s got a good layout for speed dating. The 2 for 1 happy hour (until 8pm) also helps!

We meet people from a wide variety of professions at this event. Last week for example our hosts met and airline pilot for British Airways, 3 lawyers, a property investor, a marketing director and a farmer from Wiltshire that had travelled to London especially for the night. As you can see it’s an event for everyone and everyone had a great night.

We recently started using our new Mixeo app at this event and it’s going down a storm. Mixeo is an app for your smartphone that you use to record who you’ve met and who you liked on the night. This takes the place of a paper scorecard and pen and it’s worked wonders for our match rate.

Because you enter your choice on someone as you meet them you don’t get the chance to forget your first impression. It’s a simple case of ticking someone yes, no or friend and moving on to your next date.

People have asked us if you can change your mind after you make a selection and the answer is yes. You have up until 9am on the following morning to finalise your choices for everyone and you simply change your selection on the app.

As often happens at our events, we find that most people stay on after the speed dating for another drink to get to know the people they’ve met a little better.

If you’re in your thirties and considering trying speed dating we highly recommend your try this event. We’re at Match every Wednesday and tickets are from £20.00 per person.

HOW IT WORKS

The beauty of Speed Dating London lies in its no-nonsense approach. You take an equal number of single girls and guys, put them in a room and give them a few minutes to chat with every other member of the opposite sex.

This will help you to keep track of the singles that you would like to meet again and perhaps go on a date with. After a short period of mingling, your host for the evening who will run through detailed instructions and give you your starting position if you are a guy or table for the event if you are a girl.

Meet & Mingle

A London speed dating event is split into two halves, each lasting around an hour, there will be an interval at half time of about 15 minutes for speed dating London. You will have between 4 and 5 minutes with each person, after which you need to tick a box on your score sheet - "yes, I would like to meet this person again" or "no. Thanks but no thanks". Or "friend" if you'd like to get to know them platonically. Make sure that you do this after each date to keep track. Afterwards there is an opportunity for everyone to meet and mingle informally - this is often where the real action begins, so make sure you don't disappear too quickly!
