What a week and we’re only half way through!

Already we’ve got one busy speed dating event under our belt. Last night, we hosted 30 people at Match Bar which is located a minutes’ walk from Oxford Circus tube station. This event was for our ever popular over 30s age category.

Match Bar is typical of West End bars. It’s a busy joint and very popular with the West End’s after work drinks crowd. This venue has a happy hour which actually extends to about four hours. Bonus! Cocktails, beers and bottles of house wines are two for the price of one so there’s reasons aplenty to pop in for a slurp.

We hold our events in a private area they call their VIP. It’s a good layout for speed dating as it’s easy for guys to work their way around the tables of assembled ladies.

As I said we had 15 girls and 15 guys in attendance last night. This is a good number of people to meet in one night and it took around two hours for everyone to meet each other.

Charlie, our newest host took the lead and once everyone arrived we got down to the serious business of meeting new people.  We seemed to do our job well as everyone appeared to get on really well as our matching and messaging app, Mixeo has been working overtime today delivering messages to all the people that matched at the event last night!

That’s the beauty of speed dating especially when you compare it to online dating. The key is how quickly you can meet so many people. When you meet 15-25 new people in one night it’s fair to say you’re pretty likely to meet a few people you click with, right there and then. Online dating on the other hand is a painfully slow process. First you have to search for people, message them and then wait. Wait some more and maybe, just maybe you’ll get a reply. After this you have to and fro with ever more messages just to get to the point where you actually meet the person. Sadly and all too often the meeting bit is where it all goes wrong and there’s no spark between you.

There’s none of that with speed dating of course because the meeting up bit is the first thing you do. Yes it might be a little nerve-wracking before you start. But we guarantee it’s worth it!

Anyway I digress. Tonight we have another event at The Exhibit in Balham. It’s one of our longest standing venues and one we really like. They’re very friendly bunch at this venue and we always have a good turnout. Great if you’re living or working in South West London as this venue is moments from the Balham tube and train stations. Check out forthcoming events here.

Tomorrow night sees us back at Dion in St Pauls. This event is probably the busiest night on our programme and pretty much every week we get a sell-out crowd. This venue takes 44 people and we’re expecting that number tomorrow night. It’s the busiest speed dating event in London and very works brilliantly for our clients. Only the other week we bumped into a past client who has met his girlfriend at the event. They were at the bar celebrating their 4th anniversary together!

This venue gets results for people and we love seeing our matching ratios for this venue. Most event there over 90% of clients get at least one match. That’s something we’re incredibly proud of.

On Saturday night we’ll be back in Central London at another venue, Black & Blue. It’s a short walk from Oxford Circus set behind Oxford Street. We often see a crowd of 40 people at this venue and we love working here. Because it’s Saturday night it’s not uncommon for the speed daters to decamp from the bar after the event and head into Soho afterward to extend their night.

There’s a few places left for this one. Check them out here.

If you’re considering giving speed dating a go I urge you to take the plunge. It’s worth throwing yourself in at the deep end as the result and be amazing. Not only could you meet someone special, you’re also going to get a fantastic night out into the bargain.

A London speed dating event is split into two halves, each lasting around an hour, there will be an interval at half time of about 15 minutes for speed dating London. You will have between 4 and 5 minutes with each person, after which you need to tick a box on your score sheet - "yes, I would like to meet this person again" or "no. Thanks but no thanks". Or "friend" if you'd like to get to know them platonically. Make sure that you do this after each date to keep track. Afterwards there is an opportunity for everyone to meet and mingle informally - this is often where the real action begins, so make sure you don't disappear too quickly!
