Things to do this August bank holiday.

Friday August 25, 2017

Another bank holiday is upon us, its been too long since we had what felt like at least four in the space of six weeks. I think we all deserve one as well! I’m sure we’ve all been working hard when its been sunny outside and we’ve been stuck inside (for that one week it was actually nice weather).

So, let’s have a look at what’s happening in London that weekend and how best to enjoy our 3 days off to its full potential.

Now that doesn’t mean get wasted and drink your body weight in alcohol but since it’s a bank holiday, if there’s ever a time, the time is now.

My hangovers aren’t what they used to be, out to the wee hours and still up at 6am like I never went out but now I need 3 days to recover.

So how should we start the bank holiday weekend? Well why not start with our busiest Speed Dating event in London at Dion, St. Paul’s you might end up on a romantic 3 day date.

On Saturday we see London’s very own Music Festival, that’s right SW4. For those of you that don’t know SW4 takes place on Saturday the 26th and 27th of August on Clapham Common and has some of the biggest DJ’s from the club scenes playing as well as some big commercial names with this year’s headliners being the massive Pendulum.

This open air festival will get you out of those basement clubs and also means you can enjoy the weather at the same time. It kicks off both days at 12 noon which will see you get good value out of those ticket prices. Starting at £49.99 and going up to £99.99, which is a bit on the steep side but if you’re a music fan it does mean you can enjoy that festival atmosphere without having to go out of town and drag your tent with you.

Sure to be a well attended event so make sure you get your tickets as soon as possible if you fancy it.

Also the night of the 26th sees one of the most talked about sporting events possibly ever. It’s none other than the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight which sees to of the best fighters of there respected sports face off in an epic battle. Mayweather is on of the best boxers of his generation having seen him win all 49 of his fights, a record only equaled by the great Rocky Marciano.

McGregor at the top of his current game in the UFC as moved over to boxing for one night only. Who will win, will it be the younger McGregor who is technically fighting in a different sport or the undefeated Mayweather who is a lot older and coming out of retirement for this one off?

This will be a late start at around 2am but it’s a bank holiday so invite friends round, get some beers in and some nibbles. Its only £19.99 on Sky Box Office or alternatively some pubs in London have been known to get a special late license for such events.

Finally if you aren’t too spent or it might even be worth saving yourself for the Notting Hill Carnival.

What a fantastic day out celebrating Caribbean communities and culture, with everything from food, music, dancing and floats on both Sunday 27th and Monday 28th

Proceedings will start at 9:30am both mornings and you will be sure to be dancing right up to the noise curfew at 7pm as the carnival takes over Notting Hill.

There's a lot more on offer in London this August bank holiday than this but I hope I’ve has got your cogs turning. Nothing better than planning a good bank holiday weekend and it gives you something to look forward to, might even make you work that little bit harder to clear your desk so you can really enjoy it. Have a good one and as always thanks for reading.

HOW IT WORKS

The beauty of Speed Dating London lies in its no-nonsense approach. You take an equal number of single girls and guys, put them in a room and give them a few minutes to chat with every other member of the opposite sex.

This will help you to keep track of the singles that you would like to meet again and perhaps go on a date with. After a short period of mingling, your host for the evening who will run through detailed instructions and give you your starting position if you are a guy or table for the event if you are a girl.

Meet & Mingle

A London speed dating event is split into two halves, each lasting around an hour, there will be an interval at half time of about 15 minutes for speed dating London. You will have between 4 and 5 minutes with each person, after which you need to tick a box on your score sheet - "yes, I would like to meet this person again" or "no. Thanks but no thanks".
