Opps, now as we all know a blog
is designed to be regularly updated. And ours hasn't been touched for
over a year now. So, in a bid to remedy this here's our views on why
speed dating is the best way to meet real people in London.
There's no doubt that online dating is
popular these days, but I think it's fair to say it does have it's
drawbacks. Let's examine them.
Firstly there's the business of creating a profile. It's hard trying to
sell yourself in what is effectively a classified ad, it's also rather
unnatural. Then there's selecting a picture for your profile, so
difficult to know which holiday snap is likely to show you to the world
in your most appealing light. Following this comes the horror of sending
and receiving messages to and from other members. Of course, this could
be a pleasurable experience and it is possible you could strike up a
conversation with a George Clooney or Cameron Diaz look-alike from from
what we've heard this isn't often the case.
Having blocked the most obvious Care in the Community cases you might
well find some people that seem nice from what they look like and what
they've written. So this then leads to the inevitable date meeting.
That's good, you say...
Except of course, in the case of online dating cameras can lie. They can
also transport people back to a time to a period where they are five
years younger than they are now. Remarkable! Time is a precious comodity
and boy this process can take a lot of time. It could be weeks before
you have your first date only discover that these days Cameron Diaz
rather more resembles Vanessa Feltz, but without the charm.
If only there was a better way to meet people… A way of meeting about 20
people in one night, in the flesh. Where you can have a drink and a
laugh, even bring your friends and the whole process is totally
rejection free and where you'll only hear from people you had a mutual
connection with. Hang on a minute. Have you heard of speed dating? Now,
you're probably be reading this having tried speed dating before.
Perhaps you got some dates from it, perhaps not. Either way I'm guessing
for whatever the reason it didn't work out the first time you tried it.
(I bet you still had a very fun night anyway though)
Anyway, if that's you I'm urging you to give speed dating another
chance. Every event we run is different and a different bunch of people
attend. There's no way of knowing in advance but your next special
someone could be booking for one of our events right now. The people we
hear success stories from understand that for speed dating to work best
you have to try it a few times. After all, it's a fun and confidence
building process and because of the way it works, sooner or later you'll
meet someone you click with.

25/01/10 - Valentine's DATECrasher Party - Just Three Weeks to Go!
Until a few years ago St Valentines Day, or in other words the one day
of the year that anonymous stalking by post is not seen as a reason to
call the police, was actually viewed by most to be for those already in
a relationship. A contrived business, the cost of which being oppositely
congruent to the length to time spent in that relationship. Those
married for, let's say, longer than a decade would make do with a simple
exchange of cards. Whist those in the very early stages of courting
would go to overdraft busting lengths to show that they care, very much,
about their current partner. Be it red roses that just a day ago cost a
quarter of the price they do today or set meal in the local Italian that
now makes buying a racehorse seem like good value for money.
This view has changed. Valentines Day is now all about meeting new
people and not about those that already have. We've been in the dating
events business since 2003 and our Valentines Parties have grown every
year and 2010 is going to be our biggest yet.
Our Valentine's Party 2010
This year we're organising a greet party at Bar Rumba, close to
Piccadilly Circus. The venue has a comfortable capacity of 400 people
and we pretty sure we'll fill it if previous years are any thing to go
by.
So
what happens at this event? We don't believe in gimmicks but there are a
few ingredients that make for a great Valentines party . Firstly,
everybody that attends is single. Obvious, but important and never the
case on your average night out. Next, we also ensure an equal
male/female split attends. Not easy but we've got a great reputation in
London and our parties are always over subscribed. Next, a fun
icebreaker. This is important. The lock and key icebreaker means that
everyone has a good reason to approach anyone they like the look of.
How does it work?
The lock and key format is very simple. Girls get a small padlock and
guys each get a key. Participants then simply have to find the key that
matches their lock. During the process you'll get to meet a lot of
people. Some you'll want to chat further to and some, you'll just move
on, but this format makes for a very sociable atmosphere.
So what happens when I find my match?
You and you lock match then return to the Original Dating desk where you
be entered into a prize draw that takes place on the night and you'll be
given a new lock and key to carry on mingling with. Prizes get
drawn on the night.
Because there are so many people attending you're bound speak to a few
people you like, you'll be amazed how much fun you can have once you get
going.
About the Venue
Bar Rumba is a late night bar and club located on Shaftsbury Avenue, a
couple of minutes from Piccadilly Circus. We have taken the bar
exclusively for our party until 10pm but of course you're welcome to
stay until they close at 3am if you like.
To
keep the atmosphere perfect for mingling we keep the music at a level
designed for talking. We've also securred some great happy hour prices
until 9pm.

11/01/10 - The New Year begins and we're
busier than ever - And that's great news for you!
Let's start by wishing everyone a happy and fantastic new year. Despite
the recent snow our first week back started well. Our first few events
all sold out and feedback was good. Just how we like to start every new
year! Towards the end of 2009 Original Dating made a few changes. I
won't go into detail (our competition would love that!) but let's just
say our events are busier than ever before and most importantly more
successful than ever before. We are now totally confident that our
events, without doubt, are the best on offer in London. Were not
normally ones to blow our own trumpet but we've seen what else is out
there and that's (in our opinion) a fact!
If you've never tried speed dating in London before then perhaps 2010 is
the year you should. We find meeting lot's of people face-to-face is a
great way to start relationships and we're very confident you will too!
15/12/09 - What a busy Year - Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all
2009 has been the busiest year on record for Original Dating. We've run
a huge number of events across London. Our match percentage is up and
literally thousands of dates have occurred as a result of our speed
dating events in London. Our success has been driven by our attention to
detail and that's why our largest source of new business is friends
telling friends. We're proud to be so good at what we do and look
forward to another record breaking year in 2010! We hope to see you

24/06/09 - DATECrasher Boat Party - Judged
a success by all
Our boat party on Saturday June 13 was a great success. 240 people
joined us for our first ever afternoon boat cruise. The fun started at
3pm when the boat set sail from Temple Pier in central London. We then
cruised for four hours taking in the sights of London from the unique
perspective to The River Thames. Our DJ supplied the soundtrack for this
event and it soon became a hive of activity as the lock and key party
provided the perfect icebreaker. We had a huge number of matches and
feed back from the customers was great. Hope you can join us for the

- DATECrasher - Probably the best dating event in the world.
Last Thursday saw our first ever DATECrasher party and what a superb
event it was too. Even if I do say so myself. 125 people gathered at
Chelsea's trendy Apartment 195 for what was one of the most sociable
nights of the year. The DATECrasher format brings together three already
highly effectively icebreakers under one roof. The result? A cracking
night for all, that's what.
Central to the event is our lock and key icebreaker. A top way to get
any party started and certainly a great way to get the group mingling
fast. In addition to this was our unique card icebreaker. (Note to
competitors: if you'd like to copy this one, I suggest you buy a ticket
to the next event) Thirdly and in a slightly quieter side room we
offered mini speed dating sessions throughout the night.
We
gave some great prizes on the night and feedback has been superb.

29/10/2007 - What a Party!
Hello all. Just a quick update to let you know that our Lock & Key Party
at Hydro Bar in London was a great night! The event attracted
around 100 of London's most eligible singles. There was a great
atmosphere throughout the event and everyone really got into the sprit
of mingling and chatting throughout the night.
Now, as always with our Clapham parties your ticket also entitles you to
free entry to the Clapham Grand. Most people headed down the the
club afterwards for what became a really rather raucous night. We're
announcing another lock and key party very soon so watch this space!

We've decided that it was about time we had another Lock & Key party.

Although we've used Halloween as our excuse for this bash we're not
expecting anyone to come in fancy dress - just dress to impress as
usual!

Original Dating has been running successful speed dating events London
along with our programme of wine tasting events and quiz dating events
since 2003. In our business that makes us pretty darned ancient! Our
events are still selling out and feedback is, as ever, great - that's
because our events really, really work!
Now since we're not people to rest on our laurels we will continue to
launch new event concepts to bring single Londoners together.

the only exceptions are that we provide the perfect icebreaker to get
everyone mingling and chatting from the outset!

enable them to meet other Londoners. Our first format was of course
speed dating events and boy, we've run a few of them. 593 to be precise
since we started over four years ago, that's an average of 2.85 a week
to be precise. We then launched Lock & Key parties and of course
everyone else followed suit...
Naturally, we keep coming up with new ideas. Recently we've launched
QuizDating. These events have been huge and work really really well
- if you haven't tried one yet you really should. Our other unique
format WineDating has again proven to work superbly as a means to
meet new people and the next event on Friday August 24th as
practically sold out already. Don't worry, more dates to be announced
shortly!
Our latest idea is the Original Dating Summer Treasure Hunt. Now,
this may sound like an strange way to meet people to you. And it is -
it's never been done before, but we think is going to be highly
effective and bloody good fun too! Companies have been using treasure
hunts for years as a means of team building and as a good excuse for an
away day, probably a jolly good piss-up as well.
As
cheesy as they sound they achieve their objective incredibly well. I
know because I went on one when I first joined my last company and we
all had a great time. Our treasure hunt is going to be a bit different
as it's broken into two sections and people join a different team for
each half of the event. This feature is designed to maximise the amount
of people you meet. We're also hiring a casual venue for our an
after-party to allow for some post-hunt refreshments... What a day out!
We're expecting up to 150 people at our first ever treasure hunt on

- It's time for another big party - Announcing our Summer Cocktails Lock
& Key Party on August 31st!
It's been a while since our last big party. In fact it's been almost two
whole months and that really isn't good enough! As a result we've
decided to put together another Friday night Lock and Key party on
Friday August 31st at The Hydro Bar in Clapham Junction. This event is
going to be a summer cocktail and lock and key party and a summer
cocktail is included in your ticket price (provided you arrive before
8pm).
We're hiring out Hydro exclusively for this event and we're expecting
150 people to come. It's going to be a great night of flirting and
mingling and a great way to meet loads of people every from all over
London. Drinks prices at Hydro are cheap in comparison to most places
and the atmosphere is laid back and ideal for a summer party.

- Phew! What a Scortcha!
What a weekend of fantastic weather. It's true that London really is the
best city in the world, particularly when the sun is shining. Now
wouldn't it be great to meet someone to share some of London's amazing
parks and other attractions with through the rest of the summer? Well,
attending Original Dating's collection of speed dating events parties

- What a Week!
This week has been really busy! Tuesday saw the second
ever QuizDating event at The Amber Bar (London W1). The event attracted
a great bunch of people and once again was totally sold out! These
events work differently to standard speed dating at people meet in
groups. We still offer our unique access to our online matching system
and you still meet a lot of people throughout the night. The only
difference being that you have to answer quiz questions as you go round!

Friday's Wine Tasting or WineDating event in London is shaping up a
treat! We've got an equal number of male and female participants
attending (which is harder than you might think to achieve!) and it's
looking like its going to be fun. WineDating is basically speed dating
with wine tasting thrown in to the mix. The groups tend to be a little
smaller than most of our events but you get longer to chat with each
person and of course all of your wine is included in the price of the

We've been running speed dating events in London's wonderful Soho for
over four years. Although the venues have changed our events have always
been popular and tonight's event is no exception. Our current venue, the
Amber Bar, is ideal for speed dating. We use the totally private
downstairs bar for our events. It's layout is great, not too big but can
still hold a great sized event in comfort. As of 11.59am - four male
places remain.

16/07/2007 - Running Four Years and Still Going
Strong
Original Dating has been established for four years
now. That's a long time in anyone's book.
Speed Dating, particularly London speed dating, has now become an
established and accepted part of the singles scene. Once dating events
we veiled in stigma, people can now hold their heads up high and admit
that yes - I'm going speed dating tonight!
Now, we know the format works and we know
the match rate (it's about 80% BTW) but it doesn't mean we are going to
sit back on our laurels. We believe the speed dating market is maturing,
particularly in London. We think that our clients may be looking for
different and more original ways to meet new people. We're going to give
them those opportunities. Unlike our competition we're not a one trick
pony. We can turn our hands to anything and we've proved it.
Last week the first of our new wave of
events - QuizDating took place at the Amber Bar in Soho. It was a
first class event which attracted over 50 people from across London.
We're doing it again on July 24 for your info and early indications show
that it's going to be just as popular.
