Review: The Anthologist in The City

Wednesday March 4, 2015

Main Image

The City of London is known for its attraction to big. Big bonuses, big budgets, big brands and big bars.

Now we all know that big isn’t always beautiful, particularly when it comes to finding the perfect drinking establishment.

And yet, a relatively new breed of bar seems to have found the perfect balance between size, aesthetics and style.

Just 5 minutes' walk from Bank station, The Anthologist offers an indulgent antidote to the City’s reputation for raucous hedonism. Clean lines, minimalist furniture, the occasional decorative flourish and a quirky relaxed vibe come together to provide a wonderfully attitude free venue. So once somewhere in The City we'd actually choose to drink in ourselves.

The service is, quite simply, exceptional. Some of the best we’ve experienced recently. The are used to being busy and they don't like to keep people waiting. The very reasonably priced wine and beer selection is broad enough for the most eclectic tastes and if cocktails are your thing then on and off-menu tipples are available in abundance.

The food, like the bar, is pared back, simple, effective and wonderfully fresh and certainly won’t break the bank. And no matter how many people filter in, there is always a quiet space to retreat in to.

Importantly, the acoustics are fantastic which means that whether you’re throwing a 300 person party or simply enjoying a meal for two, nothing is overwhelming. In fact, this really sums up The Anthologist – Understated class. It has enough frivolities to keep the eye interested but always sits the right side of indulgent. Service is quick, friendly and professional. Prices are wonderfully reasonable and nothing seems too much effort.

This is our current pick of the City of London. Hopefully we’ll see you there soon.

In fact why don't you join us here on Saturday April 11 for our huge and wonderful Spring Fling Party. 300 people are joining us for what promised to be THE perfect event if you're looking to meet someone in time for Summer.

Featuring our lock and key party icebreaker, speed dating all night, a live band and lots more this really isn't to be missed.

More on that here. Book quickly, it's selling fast!
