Tucked away in one of Fitzrovia’s more obscure streets is a gem of a basement bar - Nordic.
With a nod to the dive bars of old but with a professional polish, Nordic combines an open front tabled area with a few little nooks and crannies for those more intimate discussions.
Scandinavian wood is the furniture material of choice which, when combined with friendly and efficient table service no matter how busy it gets, provides a surprisingly comfortable evening of food and drink.
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t just a relaxed bolthole from the madness of the West End – Saturday nights are a worthy party time – it’s just that Nordic strikes the perfect balance between lively, raucous drinking den and easy access to food and drink. It never feels claustrophobic or out of control.
The Scandinavian element comes from its wonderful selection of very well priced beers and cocktails and generously sized smorgasbords. Oh, and its amazingly friendly staff. Plus there’s a shot wheel, ping pong table in the back room and loads of offers throughout the week to keep the most cynical punter happy.
In short, we at Original Dating love it. It’s one of the few bars that’s able to appeal to all sensibilities. Lunch time eatery? Done. After work drinks? No problem. One on one chat while not missing out on the action? Already delivered.
